Sometimes all it takes, is to look at things from a different perspective....
✨ I N S P I R E
“When you are distressed by an external thing, it’s not the thing itself that troubles you, but only your judgment of it. And you can wipe this out at a moment’s notice.” – Marcus Aurelius
✨ R E F L E C T
It's never the external thing that creates our experience....
But what we think about it
It’s not the friend, child, sister, husband, guy in the store, the driver behind you or even your mother
It’s not the party, the conversation or the email, the comment on social media or the text
It’s not the past, the present or the future
It’s what we think about these things that matters
Unfortunately, our brains often default to the negative
It's a self preservation/protection mechanism designed to keep us safe back when 'danger' was mountain lions and spears...
Rather than a confusing text from a friend, or your boss calling you in for a meeting
✨ T H R I V E
Keep this simple sentence in your back pocket for challenging, confusing, and/or anxious moments:
"How can I see this differently?"
Remember, just because you think it, doesn't mean it's true ✨
So the next time you are triggered:
Your boss criticizes your work in the big meeting
A weird text from your sister
The loneliness of feeling misunderstood
A call from your child's teacher
Drinking and/or eating more than you planned
A never-ending (and ever-expanding) To Do List
Remind yourself... you get to choose what you make this mean
"How can I see this differently?"
Just opening up to the possibility that there is another way to view the situation creates space to breathe around it
Hint! Write out your responses for a big-time clarity boost
What might open up when you consider an alternative possibility?
Sending all the love,
Carolyn
