This week, I'd love to introduce you to a simple practice I like to call, The Universal Check-In.
The Universal Check-In is an easy way to bring awareness and curiosity to your life by shifting your attention inward. It gets you out of your busy mind, and grounds you in the stability and trust that resides in your body.
I was reminded of it when my 6 year old daughter Katherine, showed me her new system of checking in with herself each day. She said she was inspired by my journaling each morning (be still my heart!) and wanted to get in on the action. See the pic below! #ixsidid
If you too want to get in on the Check-In action, here is a simple, and EASY way to do that - sketchbook not required ;)
Simply take a single deep breath and then ask yourself, How am I feeling right now ~ pleasant, unpleasant, or neutral?
Try this several times throughout the day.
Set a timer on your phone. Check-in every time you get into the car or sit down at your desk, or hang up the phone. The more the merrier.
Notice any patterns, and how your responses change throughout the day. Approach the feedback with curiosity.
If you're breathing, you have time for this important practice.
Consider how many times a day (an hour even!) you check in with those in your life. Children in particular, but also friends, co workers, other family members etc...
Don't forget to check in with you.
Show yourself that you matter. How you feel matters.
Give yourself the same attention and care you so easily give out to others.
