For When Life Gets Busy

I'm feeling this one Big Time right now, hope the message resonates with you too and inspires you to realign with what really matters....

“You should sit in meditation for twenty minutes everyday - unless you're too busy; then you should sit for an hour.” ―Dr. Sukhraj Dhillon

When life gets busy, taking care of ourselves is often the first thing to go.

It creeps in slowly though, doesn't it?

First it's one skipped walk, or a missed journaling session

Then it's 3 days in a row, then a week and then the practice that brought so much happiness, calm, and ease is forgotten.

I watched this happen to me this week.

I'm in a busy space with work and the kids right now.

**Note to self - STOP signing them up for so many activities 🤦‍♀️

And in this busy-ness and trying to get everything done, I watched my carefully crafted and well-loved habits slipping....

--> Rushing through journaling

--> Meditating in bed rather than downstairs - so, basically me just

still just sleeping but calling it meditating 💃

--> Grabbing food on the go in between carpools

--> Not getting to bed early enough

--> Skipping workouts because I don't 'have enough time'

UGH.

And in this space, I'm cranky and disconnected.

But, when I slow down enough to notice what’s happening, I bring awareness to my thoughts, feelings, and actions.

Then I can change them.

Awareness is power.

When I'm going down this chaotic and distracted road, I take these 3 simple steps to realign with what's important:

# 1 --> I pause

Physically stop moving

Slow down the action

Take a deep breath and soften your shoulders

# 2 --> I write my priorities out

Don't skip this

Grab your journal or a sheet of paper and write your priorities out

*Remember, if everything is important, nothing is

What really matters right now?

From this simple step:

*Clarity and focus appear

*Decisions are easier to make

*Boundaries are easier to hold

# 3 --> Make a plan

I ❤️ the 4 D's for when the overwhelm kicks in:

*Delete: Remove unnecessary tasks or distractions

*Delegate: Assign tasks to others (kids count!)

*Defer: Postpone tasks - I schedule them in my calendar for a later time

*Do: Do the task that are urgent and important

These 3 steps give me back my time, calm, and focus... so I can do a 7 min meditation, rather than needing the hour 😉

Love,

Carolyn
