Very busy. Very important. Very annoyed in traffic.

Lately I've been trying to treat everyday frustrations as practice.
Traffic
Long lines
Plans changing
Not because I want to become some perfectly calm Zen person.
But because if I can’t handle a minor inconvenience, how will I maintain composure during true pressure and stress?
Well yesterday, my system failed.
I got stuck in awful traffic on the way to yoga and missed the class.
Deep breathing was no match for this 45 minute "gigantic waste of time".
Defeated - and hugely annoyed - I finally turned around, grabbed the dog, and went for a walk by the water instead.
There's a bench there I pass all the time.
One I always notice but almost never stop at (because apparently I am too busy and important that I can't sit for even 2 minutes to enjoy a beautiful view??).
But yesterday I did stop.
And as I sat there - watching the water, birds chirping, sweet dog by my side - I thought: I would have missed this moment entirely if everything had gone according to plan.
Sometimes the thing we're frustrated about missing leads us straight to what we actually needed ✨

Frustration is inevitable.
Staying stuck in it is optional.
You don’t need a meditation retreat to practice this.
The small frustrating moments of everyday life - traffic, long lines, changed plans, difficult people - are the practice.
1️⃣ Stuck in traffic
↳ Try this: silently wish something good for the people around you.
↳ “I hope that person has a good day.” Weirdly effective at softening irritation.
2️⃣ Plans change last minute
↳ Try this: Pause before reacting.
↳ Ask yourself: “Will this matter in a week?” Most things lose intensity once we stop feeding them.
3️⃣ Someone is being difficult
↳ Try this: Get curious before defensive.
↳ “What might be going on for them right now?” doesn’t excuse behavior, it just keeps you from immediately escalating too.
↳ Endless opportunities to practice this one😉
4️⃣ Running late
↳ Try this: Accept reality faster.
↳ You’re already late. The better question is: “How do I want to show up now?”
5️⃣ Things don’t go according to plan
↳ Try this: Ask, “What’s available to me instead?”
↳ Sometimes the unexpected version of the day gives you something the original plan couldn’t.
6️⃣ Catch yourself spiraling
↳ Try this: Name the feeling.
↳ “I’m feeling overwhelmed.” “I’m feeling frustrated.” Labeling it creates a little space between you and the reaction.
7️⃣ The whole day feels off
↳ Try this: Stop trying to rescue it.
↳ Not every day needs to be turned around. Sometimes you just need a walk, quiet, and an earlier bedtime.
The goal isn’t to stop feeling frustrated.
It’s to get a little better at what you do next.✨
Tell me, what helps you when you're frustrated with these everyday inconveniences?
Always rooting for you,
